To tackle the issue of hunger and malnourishment, Badlav ran community kitchen“Khichri Dhaba” in the first and second waves of Covid-19. The Khichri Dhaba was established at Mill Road, Aishbagh, Lucknow with the support of Nagar Nigam, Lucknow and Goonj. The food was hygienically prepared to avoid any adulteration. About 400 hundred people were served nutritious and fresh food daily in the kitchen. In which every day about 100 needy people used to come to the center to get food and about 300 food packets were distributed to people living on the road like beggars, rickshaw pullers, mentally retarded distitute, transgenders etc. in different places of Lucknow city like Jhule Lal Bagiya on the banks of Gomti River. Food packets were distributed in gardens, under bridges, under metro stations etc.
The biggest problem that surfaced in the pandemic was the food crisis. To overcome this, “Khushi Kits” were distributed to daily wage workers, transgenders, domestic workers, the beggar community, and other missed out communities. The kits not only contained dry rations but other essential items too that were required for maintaining personal hygiene. During distribution, the communities were encouraged to adopt hygienic practices. Various myths related to coronavirus were also broken.
